Photography Safari FAQs

What photography experience level is required?

Our photography safari caters to all levels - from beginners with entry-level DSLRs to professional photographers. Tuition is tailored to individual needs. Beginners receive fundamental instruction on camera settings and composition, while advanced photographers get technical advice on challenging shots and post-processing. The small group size (max 4 per vehicle) ensures personalized attention for everyone.

What camera equipment should I bring?

Essential: DSLR or mirrorless camera with telephoto lens (minimum 200mm, 400mm+ recommended for wildlife), wide-angle lens for landscapes, extra batteries and memory cards, lens cleaning kit, laptop/tablet for editing. Recommended: Tripod/monopod, camera bean bag (we provide vehicle bean bags), rain cover, backup camera body. We provide detailed packing list upon booking. Rental equipment can be arranged with advance notice.

How are the vehicles specialized for photography?

Our photography vehicles feature: Pop-top roofs for standing 360° photography, customized camera mounts on windows, bean bags for stability, 12V/220V charging points for cameras/laptops, ample storage for camera gear, individual seating with window access for all, refrigerator for drinks, and Wi-Fi for quick image sharing. Vehicles are limited to 4 photographers plus guide for maximum comfort and access.

What is the daily schedule like?

Typical day: Pre-dawn wake-up (5:30-6:00 AM), sunrise game drive during golden hour, return to camp for brunch around 10:30 AM, midday break for editing/rest/tuition (11 AM-3 PM), afternoon game drive starting at 3 PM for evening light, sunset photography, return to camp around 6:30 PM, dinner at 7:30 PM, optional night photography/editing. Schedule is flexible based on photographic opportunities.

Can I extend my stay for more photography?

Absolutely! Popular extensions: Add Southern Serengeti (December-March) for wildebeest calving season, Western Corridor (May-July) for Grumeti River crossings, or Mahale Mountains for chimpanzee photography. We also offer beach extensions in Zanzibar for seascape and underwater photography. Most clients add 2-5 extra days for specialized photography interests.

What about non-photographer travel companions?

Non-photographers are welcome and enjoy the safari immensely. While there's photography focus, the wildlife viewing is exceptional. We can arrange split vehicles if companions prefer different activities (some may want more game drives while photographers wait for perfect light). Many non-photographers develop interest during the trip with our beginner-friendly instruction.
